My Role in the World

In the globalizing world, it seems as though it’s hard to make a significant difference in this world. However, I believe there’s a role for everyone, whether it’s big or small.

I feel that part of my role in this globalizing world is to be a good steward of the Earth and to spread awareness about the issues that I care about. In this globalizing world, freedom of speech is becoming more popular and is more often practiced.

I need to understand my own perspective and the perspectives that others may have on global issues. Most global issues have multiple ethnic, social, political, and economic perspectives that come with it. As a global citizen, I need to understand these different perspectives and see things from others’ point of view. For example, some people don’t agree with the amount of immigrants and refugees that are arriving in our country. Others think it’s good for the economy, and that we should be inviting them into our country. It’s important for me to see all sides and perspectives so that I can fully understand the situation before I take sides.

I believe that I should also respect the different cultural diversities. It’s important to make an effort to bring values together from each culture so that we can combat global issues.

Global issues affect my life, and it’s a part of my job to understand the impact of such issues such as the scarcity of resources, the distribution of power in the world, and more.

A major part of being a global citizen is correcting injustices. I should be predicting a changed world, where injustices are taken care of and we have solutions to our global issues. I need to be exploring new possibilities for the world to make it a more sustainable, prosperous place. For example, when slavery was being practiced in the 18th and 19th centuries, it was acceptable. William Wilberforce and others were envisioning the world without slavery, and through much effort, it was eventually ended. This goes to show that slavery today can also be put to an end. Even though there are more people put under slavery today than there has ever been, we also have more people going against it than ever before.
